SPT celebrates successful Chilean miners' rescue

Stockholm Precision Tools (SPT) rejoices over the successful rescuing of the 33 Chilean miners trapped over 700 meters underground since August 5th in San José Mine, all of whom were reunited with their families and loved ones, after a challenging and innovative rescue mission that saved their lives.

We all shared the great joy with the people of Chile and miners’ families, when in August 22nd the SPT North-seeking GyroTracerTM, operated by our Chilean partner GeoAtacama, was able to locate the miners, thanks to its latest gyro-compassing technology, and the expertise and combined effort of engineers and trained operators involved in the borehole survey operations.

After spending 69 days trapped underground, one by one, the miners safely emerged to the surface in October 11th, by means of  a high-tech and sophisticated purpose-built rescue capsule, designed by NASA engineers and built by the Chilean Navy, that lifted the miners up through a tunnel of 67 cm in diameter.

The unprecedented  rescue operation was, without doubt, an outstanding achievement for Chile and the mining industry at large, which highlighted the advanced engineering technology and expertise of all of the parties involved that came from all around the world.

We would like to send our best wishes to the freed miners and their families and congratulate  the Chilean officials and rescue services  that joined forces to bring them safely back to the surface from a depth never tried before.
