Challenging job in Tunisia

SPT recently spent some time with a customer in the Tunisian oilfield region. Located in central Tunisia, one week was spent at the rigs doing gyro surveys. The well conditions were very difficult making for challenging work.

SPT's representative recalls one well in particular, Rig 815. This was a deep well, 4223 meters to be exact. It starts vertical and ends horizontal with a very high dogleg severity in the deviated section. Combined with quite warm well temperatures and varying inside diameters in the rods to run the tool string, this definately wasnt the easiest survey our crew has done. But all gyro surveys went extremely well, and all were done in memory mode from a slick line unit.

"Running in memory mode under difficult well conditions is an standard in our surveying operations. when you have got very reliable equipment like the SPT systems, you always have confidence in all your work. You get to know their behaviour and knowing that the tools behave well, makes for an easier job"

This was a 28 year old well with a brand new rig that has just been erected for re-entry work. SPT's job was to survey to 3600 meters. The only existing gyro survey data for this well was from Schlumberger from 3300 meters to bottom. We went there do give them the data for the first section (0 - 3300 meters) and then 300 meters overlap, with the final survey position at 3600 meters.

All data was great and the overlapped section matched perfectly with the existing data.
